History

WCA/DC of Greater Washington

The Washington Chapter of WCA first formed to organize the 1979 WCA National Conference in Washington, DC, when the first Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony was held at the White House. It was re-energized when hosting the conference again in 1991. Women’s art was shown in over 50 area galleries and the WCA awards ceremony was held at the National Museum or Women in the Arts. The chapter has continued to flourish, organizing exhibitions, events and a networking day program every year. WCA/DC is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse chapters in the country.
