The Blue Ridge Mountains are a strong reference in my work and I find encaustic painting (beeswax, resin and pigment) an ideal medium for expression of the unique character of low ridges illuminated in atmospheric light. The summer solstice has meaning for me because it marks a specific moment when the shift of light to shorter daylight reminds me most strongly of connection with the planet.
