Featuring work by more than 20 women, including progenitors like Mavis Pusey and contemporary artists such as Shinique Smith, Magnetic Fields is intergenerational in scope and highlights the longstanding presence of black women artists within the field of abstraction in America. From the brilliant colors and energetic brushwork of Alma Woodsey Thomas’s paintings to shredded tire sculptures by Chakaia Booker, works featured in this exhibition testify to the enduring ability of abstraction to convey both personal iconography and universal themes. This landmark project underscores the diversity of abstract art, which lies in its material construction as well as in its practitioners.

202 Arts Festival

Saturday, September 9, 2017 9 am - 9 pm 4th Street and M Street, SW, Washington DC (Metro Waterfront)On September 9th, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) will proudly present the 202 Arts and Music Festival, a vibrant, family-friendly festival that celebrates DC through visual arts, performance art, and interactive cultural experiences. Glasswork by Jill Tanenbaum
May 9, 2017 – June 3, 2017

In this show, Jill has focused on creating texture with glass. Using glass powders and reactive and iridescent glass and paint, and incorporating copper elements, she has created pieces that have a depth and interest that remind one of paintings or fabrics. Most of the pieces are very tactile and, in some cases, two-sided. There are multiple steps and kiln firings required to produce each piece.Waverly Street Gallery4600 East-West highwayTuesday - Saturday 12-6

In this show, Jill has focused on creating texture with glass.
