About the Event
Theme: Songs That Make Us Move
Women's Caucus for Art invites members to participate in an in-person exhibit, 'Songs That Make Us Move'. We are looking for a wide variety of interpretations of this title. This exhibition is open to all members of the Women's Caucus for Art of Greater Washington, DC chapter members only.
The Juror for this exhibit is Martina Dodd, an Atlanta-based art historian and curator. Her concept-driven shows have touched on topics relating to race, gender, and power dynamics. Dodd holds an M.A. in the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK and a B.A. in Anthropology and International Studies from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. She is currently the Program Director of Curation and Object-Based Learning at the Robert W. Woodruff Library, Atlanta University Center and a founding editor of DIRT (https://www.dirtdmv.com/), an online independent platform and resource for accessible critical arts discourse within the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area.
Ms. Dodd has presented research, spoken on panels, and curated exhibitions at the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Clark Atlanta University Art Museum, American Studies Association, Prince George's African American Museum and Cultural Center, DC Arts Center, Transformer, Flux Factory, and Common Field Convening. She has published articles, exhibition reviews, and catalog essays with DIRT, BmoreArts, Common Field?s Field Perspectives, and Morton Fine Art.
Artwork should be created within the last three years, and not have been exhibited in any past WCADC exhibit.
All art entered remains the property of the artist and gives permission to WCADC to use artwork images in promotional materials for the exhibit on social media. Selected art will be displayed on the WCADC.org website for the duration of the exhibit. Sales of artwork purchases are handled by the front desk attendees at Friendship Gallery and they will only accept checks or cash. Any sales that requires shipping will be arranged solely by the artist. The Village Center will collect 20% of all sales and 80% goes directly to the artist.
