About the Event
Hung Liu (1948–2021) was a contemporary Chinese-born American artist, whose multilayered paintings established new frameworks for understanding portraiture in relation to time, memory, and history. Often sourcing her subjects from photographs, Liu elevated overlooked individuals by amplifying the stories of those who have historically been invisible or unheard. A curator who knew the artist may join us.
We may then want to move on to see Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass and Jean Shin Chemical Balance II at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in the same building right at the Gallery Place Metro stop. Â Meet in the first room of the Hung Liu exhibition. Masks required.
