Creativity is inspired by countless internal and external influences. To maintain vibrancy, try something new. It can be as simple as experimenting with a new tool, unfamiliar material, or varying the subject. Or, try an entirely different medium. A representational painter may paint abstractly; a sculptor may work in a different material; an abstract painter may paint with the non-dominant hand; or a printmaker may use a color palette out of their comfort zone.
Options can be as incremental or extreme as your comfort and imagination allow. No matter how you approach this personal challenge, you’re bound to learn something to help you in your current direction, or take you on a new, exciting path. Henri Matisse said, “Creativity takes courage.” Be courageous; see where your creativity takes you.
